Outspoken. Outstanding. These two words have become synonymous with Hot Docs and our cutting-edge documentaries. Each year we present over 180 films from Canada and around the globe, inspiring new perspectives and critical debate on the key issues of our time. Over the years, Hot Docs’ education programs have grown exponentially and have positively impacted thousands of youth across Ontario. Our continued growth is made possible through the generous support of our personal champions who have made donations throughout the year, and through our Festival box office.
Our programs for youth share the transformative power of film with both young audiences and filmmakers. We are pleased to report that our Docs For Schools program, which offers FREE in-school and in-theatre screenings of Hot Docs selections, has now become a key element of the school spring calendar. We also take great pride in preparing education packages with valuable background information, creative lesson plans, and links to the Ontario curriculum for each film in the program. Our Docs for Schools program now reaches over 340 high schools and 73,000 youth across Ontario.
With the recent partnership with Blue Ice Film, the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema aims to be the a nexus for educational programming. Hot Docs recently launched Docs For Schools Monthly, a new year-round education series for youth. Programmed by Hot Docs’ Education & Youth Programs Manager, Docs For Schools Monthly presents screenings at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema that parallel special themes and events throughout the calendar year.

Since launching one year ago, the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema has welcomed audiences of over 130,000 and enrolled more than 5000 members. We’ve screened hundreds of exceptional Canadian and international documentaries, many of which would not have had a theatrical release. It is with the support of the Bloor Hot Docs Founders’ Circle that has saved the once-threatened Cinema, and turned the historic landmark into THE destination for documentary and a home for Hot Docs.
