The Doc Shop Submission Guidelines

Submissions to The Doc Shop 2013 are now closed.

Eligibility

Hot Docs accepts submissions of documentaries of all lengths and subject matters (including series) for inclusion in The Doc Shop.

To be eligible, documentaries must be English language, subtitled in English or English-versioned.

Unlike submissions to the Festival, productions do not have to be Toronto premieres to be included in The Festival Doc Shop.

You can submit rough/fine cuts but you may want to make note of the status of your film at the beginning of your synopsis. This will ensure that viewers watching your submission via the digital viewing stations know the status of your film.

Entry Fees

The fee for each film submission to The Doc Shop is $67.80 CDN ($60 + $7.80 HST). Films will be available online for a 12-month period.

If you have a large portfolio of films to submit, please contact us for more information on multiple film submissions.

  • 5 Submissions: $275.00 (includes free membership)
  • 10 Submissions: $475.00 (includes free membership and branded playlist)
  • 15 Submissions: $625.00 (includes free membership, branded playlist and Conference and Networking Pass)

Submitting Your Film

Submissions are now closed.

Please also note that the entry form must be submitted to Hot Docs on or before the deadline outlined above if you would like your film to be available in The Doc Shop during Hot Docs 2013. The confirmation page must be printed out and sent with the following:

  • One DVD (All formats and regions) for digitizing and transcoding purposes

OR

  • An MP4 file no larger than 3GB of your film ready to upload – this can be sent digitally or on a DVD.

Submission packages postmarked by the deadline date will be accepted.

DVDs will not be returned. Do not send film prints, master tapes or other originals.

All submissions must be sent prepaid. The Festival will not accept collect or C.O.D. shipments. Hot Docs will not assume responsibility for, nor will it accept, shipments incurring expenses for terminal charges, duties, taxes or customs brokerage. Note that Hot Docs does not accept international shipments via United Parcel Services (UPS) since this courier does not deliver international duty-free shipments to Toronto.
