Farewell
90 minutes | North American Premiere | Rating: PG
This alluring and romantic doc recreates, through stunning archival footage and intimate journal entries, Lady Grace Drummond-Hay’s exhilarating and tumultuous experience as the only female passenger on the Graf Zeppelin’s 1929 around-the-world voyage. During the long and eventful flight, Lady Grace—a star reporter for Hearst Press renowned for her intelligence, beauty, and wit—becomes distracted by a personal quest: to meet with her secret lover, co-passenger and colleague Karl von Wiegand. When the Zeppelin finally lands in New York, the couple is separated and Grace is transformed into a cinema star. In 1929, people were convinced the airship’s journey was a turning point in history. A few weeks later, Wall Street crashed and a dark period in history began. Farewell is a dazzling evocation of this poignant historical moment and an enthralling portrait of a fascinating woman. - Shannon Abel
