The Field of Magic
62 minutes | Lithuania | (Subtitled) Lithuanian Russian | North American Premiere | Rating: 14A
For more than two decades a group of people has been living in the Buda Forest in Lithuania. Surviving off the refuse of a nearby landfill, they are a population living on the margins. Despite the negative image the media has given them, young filmmaker Mindaugas Survila discovers quite a different story. Over several visits with community members, Survila ultimately gains their trust, allowing him to capture their stories of love and loss in this intimate and touching story. Four years in the making, The Field of Magic is a docu-poem about a community that finds strength and celebration in one another. Heather Haynes
