Love Shines offers a rare glimpse into the heart and soul of songwriting when Ron Sexsmith partners with legendary Canadian producer Bob Rock to work on a new album. The process with Rock turns introspective and delves into the darker side of creativity as, through a series of flashbacks and Super 8 footage, Sexsmith confronts insecurity, the meaning of success, the realities of the music industry and his humble beginnings in St. Catharines. Sexsmith’s songs have never received a lot of mainstream radio play and, like many Canadian artists, there’s a gaping abyss between fame and finances. A songwriter’s songwriter, Sexsmith’s new songs and a stellar cast of musicians, including Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Feist and Daniel Lanois testify to his talent. A complex portrait of one of Canada’s greatest songwriters.
