Danic Champoux spent his childhood staring out his family’s living room window, watching the excitement and danger on display at the Hell’s Angels bunker directly across the street from his Sorel, Quebec home. That experience left quite an impression on young Champoux. Adoring the bikers as heroes, he aspired to one day join the notorious gang. Now an adult, Champoux reflects on his childhood and traces the biography of the notorious gang leader, Maurice ‘Mom’ Bouchard, with rollicking, off-colour and at times just plain raunchy animated sequences of their entwined histories. Moving between manga-style re-enactments and interviews with Bouchard’s acquaintances, police officers, journalists and a numerologist, Champoux reconstructs his past in the best way possible, from a very personal and uncensored point of view. What he delivers is a fast-paced, entertaining and informed look at the indelible influence of the Hells Angels on modern Quebec. Alex Rogalski
