Dan Taylor is fresh out of prison when he meets Derek, a young Christian anarchist who runs an illegal homeless shelter out of an abandoned warehouse in Brooklyn. An alternative to the impersonal, bureaucratic shelter system, Our House provides a safe space for ex-cons, former drug addicts, and punk squatters to live a communal, spiritual, and vegan lifestyle. Something as simple as sharing a bowl of oatmeal and having a conversation brings the residents closer together. For many, this connection marks the first time they’ve felt anything resembling worth. Personal and spiritual relationships thrive in the dusty sunshine of their dwelling. It isn’t until the building is set for demolition to make way for luxury condos that one realizes what is truly slated for destruction. Our House is a home crafted with hearts, not hands; intangibles such as community, trust, and goodwill are built inside its walls. - Angie Driscoll
