A Second World War re-enactment takes over the very typical Polish seaside resort of Darlowo once a year to launch the tourist season. Among Darlowo’s residents are two very atypical men. Retired US pilot Mark Buller and his helicopter are a highlight of the fair. After settling in Frankfurt after his military service, Buller moved to Poland to find a new home for his growing collection of military vehicles and his final missing piece—a wife. Jan Konstantynow is the town’s aging illusionist. His show was once a centrepiece of the town’s cultural program. But with a new cultural director in town looking to bring the program into the 21st century, Jan is finding support for his magic show waning. A man who has faced many challenges, he decides to fight for his place in the spotlight. Charlotte Cook
