If Woody Allen and Lil Wayne had a love child it would be Josh Dolgin, a.k.a. Socalled. Hip hop and funk meet klezmer in this dynamic kaleidoscopic portrait of an unstoppable gay musician, magician, cartoonist, and filmmaker. Although he describes himself as a dilettante, Dolgin performs with rappers like c-Rayz Walz and Chilly Gonzales, and with virtuoso musicians like legendary trombonist Fred Wesley of James Brown band fame, violinist Sophie Solomon, and renowned klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer. Eighteen vignettes capture magical moments of creation and fabulous concerts during his peripatetic life in Paris, New York, Montreal, and the Ukraine where he rocks the boat on the first ever klezmer cruise down the Dneiper River. An utterly original artist, Dolgin samples the musical heart and soul that beats across cultures, eras and generations, mixes them with his own unique compositions, and creates music that has everyone on their feet dancing. - Lynne Fernie
