The Valley of the Moon
The Mediterranean island of Sardinia is home to crystal blue water, miles of gorgeous shoreline and…hippies? Si. Back in 1971, a community of free-loving squatters lay claim to a rocky beach, dubbed Valley of the Moon. Today, two kooky colonists remain. Mimmo and Antoine crave the freedom and direct link to nature that mainstream society fails to offer, so each lives in a beach-front cave all year long. Carefully nurturing their idyllic habitat, they happily brave even the winter elements to forage for food and water. But their paradise comes under siege every summer as sun-seeking tourists overrun their pristine coast. When the police and the media come calling, their idyllic haven may be shut down for good. Quirky and more than a little tempting, life on this beach offers a unique meditation on just how far a person will go to live on his own terms. - Myrocia Watamaniuk
