In addition to funding, the Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund offers valuable resources to support production and professional development by providing filmmakers access to the international documentary community.
Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival 2013
This spring the Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group 2012 Grantees attended the Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival, April 25 - May 5, 2013, where they participated in a three-and-a-half day private, filmmakers lab. The lab was led by Caroline Libresco (Sundance) and Cynthia Kane (Al Jezeera), and the 2012 recipients introduced to a diverse array of advisors, including filmmakers Hubert Davis, Steve James, Michelle Latimer, Freida Mock, Charles Officer, Raoul Peck, Patrick Reed, filmmaker and Hot Docs programmer Juan Baquero, editor Per K Kirkegaard, producers Mila Aung-Thwin and Julia Rosenberg, and broadcasters Murray Battle (Knowledge) and Cynthia Lopez (POV). With a focus on creative storytelling the collaborative nature of the lab allowed the grantees to learn from each other. The lab also addressed outreach and impact, creative financing, and pitching.
