JANUARY’S DOC SOUP BRINGS CANADIAN PREMIERE OF AWARD-WINNING ITALIAN DOC THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF
Toronto, December 2, 2010 – Hot Docs is pleased to announce that the January installment of the Doc Soup monthly screening series will feature the Canadian premiere of THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF (D: Pietro Marcello, Italy, 75 minutes), winner of Berlin’s Teddy Award for best documentary as well as the FIPRESCI prize in Torino and Best International Feature Documentary at Docufest. THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF will screen on Wednesday, January 5, at 6:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. at the Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West.
Straddling the line between documentary and melodrama, THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF tells the highly unusual love story of former prison inmates Enzo and Mary. Sentenced to 20 years in jail for the shooting of two police officers, the imposing and intimidating Enzo transforms into a sensitive soul upon meeting a transgendered heroin addict named Mary. Agreeing to wait for one another until Enzo‘s eventual release, the couple is reunited against the melancholic, forgotten places of the Genoa harbour, a district caught somewhere between present and past.
The Doc Soup monthly screening series brings the latest Canadian and international documentaries to the big screen in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Select subscription packages for Toronto’s Doc Soup are still available for purchase. Single tickets for THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF are $12 and can be purchased in advance at www.hotdocs.ca or at the door on the night of the screening (subject to availability). A limited number of free tickets for the 9:15 p.m. screening will be available to students with proper ID (subject to availability) at the door, on a first-come first-served basis beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Upcoming screening dates for Toronto’s Doc Soup are February 2, March 2 and April 6. Doc Soup titles are announced at least one month prior to their screenings and, whenever possible, guest directors are in attendance.
