Docs For Schools

“The films prompted great discussions…for the first time all year every single student wanted to contribute”
- D. Joiner, St. Andrew’s College

Launched in 2006, Docs for Schools has become a key element of the school spring calendar, with over 60,000 students from more than 320 schools across Ontario participating in the program last year.

Docs for Schools offers FREE in-school and in-theatre screenings of Hot Docs selections during each year’s Festival. Docs for Schools films engage students with issues of our day, offering vital ideas, critical questions and new perspectives outside the mainstream media and school textbook.

Teacher-prepared education packages with valuable background information, creative lesson plans, and links to the Ontario curriculum are provided for each Docs for Schools title. And, whenever possible, guest directors are in attendance at in-theatre screenings for Q&A sessions with students.

Docs for Schools selections cross multiple curriculum areas, with viable content for grades 9 through 12.

Docs for Schools is generously supported by Lead Partner DundeeWealth with additional support from The Ontario Trillium Foundation, Humber College, School of Media Studies & Information Technology, The Hal Jackman Foundation, the Catherine and Maxwell Meighen Foundation, the Charles H. Ivey Foundation, Deluxe, and through contributions by individual donors.
