We are thrilled to welcome you to Hot Docs Jots, the brand new Hot Docs industry blog, a living resource and editorial platform where dynamic voices within the industry will share their expertise, advice and opinions each and every week.
The next several months will see posts from industry experts in commissioning, funding and distribution, profiles on filmmakers and Hot Docs alumni, as well as salient gems of wisdom from the Hot Docs industry team and the Hot Docs crew at large. We will be reporting back from international documentary festivals like CPH: DOX and IDFA with “Notes from the Road,” a strand for on-the-ground perspective and colourful anecdotes. Of course, we will also provide information on deadlines and tips for applying to the renowned Hot Docs Forum, Deal Maker, and our year-round Canadian and international funding and training programs for emerging and established filmmakers with projects at various stages of production.
While we’ll provide lots of great info specific to Hot Docs, the Festival and the Canadian documentary industry, we want the heart of this blog to be bigger than us, with the ultimate goal of contributing to transparency within documentary. We’ll keep our ear to the ground on the state of the industry at large, including newly developed content platforms and technologies that affect how we make and experience documentaries.
