Ontario Emerging Talent Program: Berlinale/European Film Market

To increase international discoverability and opportunities for emerging Ontario documentary filmmakers, Hot Docs will host a delegation of four filmmakers at the European Film Market in Berlin, February 2020.

Selected filmmakers will receive:

  • Accreditation to the European Film Market
  • A fixed travel stipend to Berlin, five-nights accommodation and per diems
  • Individualized pre-departure training and project feedback in order to enhance international market viability
  • Official inclusion in the Telefilm showcase of Canadian talent at the EFM
  • Facilitated exposure to broadcasters, distributors, and producers in one-on-one meetings
  • Participation in Doc Salon activities: SalonTalks, High Tea with Experts, Meet the Festivals
  • Access to Berlinale Talents public events and project lab presentations
  • Access to the Berlinale Festival program
  • Access to Co-Production Market registration

Priority will be given to filmmakers who are Indigenous, Francophone, Deaf, and/or have a disability, or who are persons of colour, and who live outside of Toronto. Priority will be given to emerging and mid-career documentary filmmakers. Filmmakers must live in Ontario.

Filmmakers are asked to apply via application with one project they would pitch at the EFM.

A jury comprised of seasoned filmmakers and a Hot Docs representative will select the final candidates to attend the EFM.
